Dubai International Airport – Concourse D

The new Concourse D of the Dubai International Airport is a satellite concourse serving as an extension of concourse 1, 2 & 3. It has been designed to accommodate foreign airline carriers’ passengers at around 3000 peak passenger/hour for arrivals and departures.  The terminal space and concourse areas comprise an extra 340,000sqm of floor space – twice the footprint of London Heathrow Terminal 5. The project involved 32 gates, including four code F gates (21 contact gates, 11 remote)

Interesting Facts:

  • When it first opened, in 1960, it was nothing more than a basic building and compacted sand runway, and could only handle aircrafts the size of a DC-3.

  • Dubai International Airport reprised the position of the world’s number one airport for international passengers again in 2021 with passenger numbers totaling 29.1 million.
  • By October 2020, Dubai International Airport has served more than 1.115 billion passengers travelling on more than 7.47 million flights since it opened in 1960.
  • Air cargo, which was less impacted by COVID-19, had its volumes increase by close to 15% year-over-year (+3.5% versus 2019), to an estimated record 124 million metric tonnes in 2021 Airports Council International
